Opening ceremony and excitement

After a thrilling and exhilarating opening ceremony for the BT Young Scientist &Technology Exhibition, all the students are revved up and ready for the next stage of the competition.

Having seen the practical applications of science and physics as demonstrated by the special acts ‘Team Extreme’ and ‘Bending it like Beckham’ and hearing success stories from the 2009 BT Young Scientists, students got a real insight into the importance of their projects.

Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin and new presenter Aidan Power looked perfectly at home on the stage as they opened the show and introduced the special guests Chris Clark, Chief Executive Officer, BT and Tánaiste Mary Coughlan, who delivered the opening lines of her speech ‘as Gaelige’.

All students have arrived and they have turned the RDS exhibition hall into a hive of creativity and there is a real buzz in the air.

Tomorrow morning the BT Young Science & Technology Exhibition will open its doors to visitors at 9.30am, giving the students a chance to proudly display the projects they been working on all year and I wish them the best of luck.
