Posted: January 12, 2010 in Uncategorized

The tension is mounting in the RDS as students from all over Dublin pour through the doors of the exhibition hall to set up the projects they have been working on all year. The excitement is palpable as the competitors begin to size up their opponents in the final of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2010. Wednesday 13th January will see the arrival of all other students from 31 counties in Ireland.

518 projects have qualified from over 200 schools, and nearly 1,150 students have been working away all year to get to this stage of the competition.

At 3pm on Wednesday 13th January, judges begin their rounds; examining every detail of the students’ projects to determine which of the many inquisitive minds will be crowned victorious.

Many of the students this year will have their sights set on the winner’s podium and beyond to commercial uses for their projects. Entrepreneurs from previous competitions include the winner from 2005 Patrick Collison and last year’s group winners, Restored Hearing who have all gone on to become big hits in the business world with their online auction inventory management solution and treatment for Tinnitus respectively.
